I recently put together an Evaporative (bong) cooler for my computer. Can someone here recomend a water additive that will keep bacteria/algae from forming? It needs to be something that will not give off toxic or foul smelling fumes. Also, this cooler goes through a ton (~ 1 gal) of water a day, so if this is something that will evaporate as well, it needs to be in expencive. Any ideas?

Peace,

What about the stuff they put in swamp coolers for your house? All that air blows into the house, so it can't be toxic and it shouldn't be terribly expensive.

Any idea on what those swamp cooler additives might be? Swamp coolers are not popular here (Missouri) due to the very high humidity.

Does your bong cooler work in high humidity?

Anyway, you could ask at your local major hardware place (Eagles, ACE, etc.) They should have some or be able to order it in for you. The stuff I use is a pink fluid, it actually seems to act a little like a surfactant (soap). It bubbles and everything. I wonder if Dawn (dishwashing soap) would work?
