Keep in mind.......(here comes the devil's advocate for all you smart#sses out there)......

If you run or even run on a good treadmill, you're hurting your joints so once your heart & lungs are in good shape, you can go back to the doctor & tell him you're fit as a fiddle except for the F'd up knees, hips & ankles part!!

:D

Oh, and sorry........No *swimming* options or *rowing machine* or crap like that. Ain't gonn have it!! This is gonna be a "vote or die" mentality! Of course we're all gonna die anyway, so I don't know what the hype is all about!

This is a personal choice. No one is better than the other.

I personally like treadmills and eliptical trainers. Stationary bikes just don't do it for me.

If you wanna loose a lot of weight...Treadmill
If you want a fatburner...Elliptical
Something in between...Stationary bike

btw, stop using the dumb "hurting your joints" excuse and go run on the treadmill.

i like ellipticals most. i don't like stationary bikes much because i always feel like i'm in the wrong position, and i keep thinking i'm going to fall off the back of the treadmill

Why no rowing machine option? I can see swimming being in a different class since putting in an indoor lap pool is not really the same, but I bought a really nice Concept2 rowing machine for about $1000. It's easy on the joints, gives a full body workout, and can be stored out of the way just as easily as any of those other machines (folds up in two pieces).

Of the other options, though, I prefer the elliptical. Although you can just get a 'trainer' if you already have a bike - basically converts it into a stationary.

Spinner bike or if you already have a bike you should get a trainer. Best exercise for the amount of time you spend, but it does cost $$.

If you don't mind the outdoors a track bike or single spped will be the best exercise you have had in a while.

OK.........sorry 'bout the poll guys..........I filled it out wrong.........doh! Fixed now.

Anyway, here's the deal...........

I've kind of always lifted weights for as long as I can remember and then I've also run quite a bit.

Problem is, I'm 6'2" and about 220lbs. I find that I always end up running on the pavement & whenever I run for a few months at a time, I can just feel the impact wearin' away.

I'm all for a good treadmill except in this case "good = expensive". I also kinda' like runnin' outdoors too. (Yes, I've tried all the good shoes. Doesn't change impact. Impact is impact!)

Ellipticals are nice, but ever get that BURNIN' when your feet stay in one position the whole time you're on an elliptical?? Reason I'm askin this is that I just threw one away I bought a few years ago. It was a cheapie from Big 5, but I just couldn't use it anymore. It sucked. I would constantly lift my feet & stuff. Plus, there's no aerobic activity like running. Running owns!!!!!!

My exercise is chasing kids all over the place:p

Treadmill = high impact, relatively full body workout
Stationary Bike = no impact, lower body workout
Some Ellipticals = no impact relatively full body workout

Man...........can't believe the treadmill's gettin' dogged like this!!!

I threw in "Stationary Bike" just for "old hat". Maybe the Tour de Lance is having an unfavorable impact on this poll???

;)
