Travelocity, Orbitz, Expedia = RIP OFFS!

So I'm trying to buy some tickets to Las Vegas for a weekend trip for my parents, i select their Flight + Hotel packages and spent 30 minutes selecting the best flights and having to compromise on times to save money, selecting the best seats etc...

Then after entering my credit card and personal info... I get a DAMN error message saying they changed the flight rates etc... so I look at the new price and they raised it 300 BUCKS!!! Then I get a message saying if thats okay or to select a different flight....

I'm like "WTF?! I just wasted my TIME compromising flight times and seats trying to find the best deal. Now they try to pull a fast one on me by raising rates and hoping I'll just say fvck it and buy it anyways." I think most people would have just bought it in my situation... anyways, what a rip off.

End Rant.

I used expedia about 1.2 years ago to book a trip to Vegas. Worked great. I think it was $700 for 2 people for 3 days. That was for flight and hotel during Comdex.

Expedia has always done alright by me... except that damn surf commercial. If I see that one more time....

I used expedia about 3 or 4 years ago to plan a trip to london for 2 and 7 days 6 nights. Came out to about $1000-1300 I forgot exactly what but around that ballpark. I was completely satisfied with it all and ran into absolutely zero problems. Stupid me didn't realize it though, but when we got there Wimbledon was starting. Hotel probably would've been cheaper if it wasn't for Wimbledon.

Even took a train to Scotland to go see Edinburgh Castle and we missed the train back and stayed a night in Scotland. The Scottish monument is freaking HUGE!!! Looks like a rocket. 😛

Damn I wanna go back there. So beautiful. 🙂

If you are planning a full trip (hotel, car, flight) and have a lot of flexibility, then those are good services. If you are looking to just get flight tickets or something...it is a waste. You can go to the airlines' websites and get the tickets for the same price (or less) 99.5% of the time in my findings...

Right on. We were looking through those places to get tickets to Florida, but after all their damn fees and crap we just went directly to the airline and got tickets for a tad cheaper (and less bullsh*t prolly).

i think you got really unlucky and got the fare right as it changed.

i love orbitz, i don't mind paying the extra 4 bucks or whatever (though sometimes you get a cheaper fare through orbitz than directly through the airline) because then they send me an email a couple days before my trip to remind me that i'm going (i leave town every other weekend or so, and am organizationally retarded)

yeah i search using orbitz or expedia, find the cheapest flight, then buy it from the airline for like $30 cheaper normally

Just because you have ONE questionable experience, in which you honestly don't know if it was intentional or just bad timing, doesn't make all travel sites "RIP OFFS!".

I looked at travelocity.com for a hotel and it was actually more than the price from the hotel themselves. ;P When I called travelocity to get the hotel phone number from them (for directions), they refused unless I made an order with them first... I wonder why.. grrr. Good thing I did find the hotel's website.

Book directly with the hotel, it's not going to be any higher as they use the same reservation system. In fact, the hotel can offer you special room rates that are unpublished.

I prefer Orbitz. They've always treated me right. I usually book hotels and flights seperately, though. In Vegas, I've always gotten good room rates a week or two before I leave. tripreservations.com has unique Vegas rates sometimes.

I only use expedia, travelocity, etc. to see who has the lowest fares. Then, I go to that airline's website and usually get the same flights cheaper.
