I know they adjusted the regulations on what you can bring your laptop in, and I want to bring my 17" laptop with me when I travel for the week I'm going to be gone. I just need to know what I'm going to be able to use, and if anyone recommends what to use.

Also, I've never travelled with a laptop before so will I just be able to put my computer in a messenger bag or backpack then present it at the security counter?

Yoy are correct. TSA has approved certain bags that do not require laptop removal. They key criterion is that nothing at all can be in the laptop segment of the bag and it must be clearly separate from other stuff such as cables, cords, adapters, etc.

I researched all of the new offerings and found that the Skooba bag would meet all my needs. It was available from Amazon for $99 with free shipping.

Here are three illustrations:

The last picture shows how it opens to lie flat on the X-Ray belt. The clear window also helps.

I travel a lot with my laptop, and this case carries everything I need - my only carfry-on, abnd it makes the security process much easier. It also includes a clear zipper pouch for your liquids and gels.

If #99 is beyond your budget, then a plain messenger bag will also do, but it can have absolutely nothing else in it but the laptop.
