Traveling to our nation's Capitol

I am attending training for the Army Reserve and they have put me up at this hotel for two weeks. Has anyone stayed at this location before and if so, what are some good places to eat at or visit while I'm there, besides the national monuments and such. I've never been to DC before (odd since I work for some of the a$$holes that work there). Any recommendations are welcome.

I am attending training, but I can't tell you about it. It's GS-15 Classified! 😀

Springfield is like 20 miles outside of DC

Luckily for you, there's a Metro stop there

Buy an all day Metro card $5...
and take the train inot the city

Are you still harboring bad feeling for me from your Red Lobster thread. It's alright, I'm not mad at you. Hell, I defend your right to call me an a$$hole if that's what you think of me. Likewise, I think some of our politicians are a$$holes. Hey, I call 'em like I see 'em. Thanks for the comment though, although most weenines today might take it as an insult being called patriotic.

Not really. You would consider yourself patriotic, no? Why do you assume I am still mad? That thread is in the past. I do think you took it out of context and it degenerated into something it wasn't intended to be. But no, I'm not mad. I don't really care. I have family in the military.

Oh, cool. Thought I might have really pissed you off or something based on your reaction. What branch are they in?

Yeah, like anybody is going to believe your reply wasn't sarcastic just because you backtrack.

Interpret it as you wish. I call someone patriotic and yet you feel the need to take a shot at every chance you can get. BTW, it's funny how you can characterize me when you don't know anything about me. Backtracking? Trust me, I don't suck anyone's a$$. You have a strong interest in the dialogue Rogue and I have. Kind of creepy.

Pretty admirable of you to steer things back to the amiable, even though you completely read the sarcasm in what he said. 😉

You know as well as I do that you were being sarcastic, so don't pretend like you weren't. However, this is Rogue's thread and if he wants it to be copacetic, then that's how it will be.

That's just how I am. I pissed in his Red Lobster after all. I was quite fun I thought, especially seeing how I stirred things up, but I digress. Sarcasm or not, I've been called worse things than a patriot. They might use that as a dirty word in P&N, but I'll have none of that here.

So, any recommendations anyone on the DC area for a two week tourist? I'm looking for some good eats more than anything, although places to avoid would be good as well.

Fvck off already. WTF is your problem? Why would I be sarcastic about sh1t like that when my family is in the military. I have family stationed at VAFB, working on NMD and Minuteman missiles. You sh1tted on my thread, but do I care?

:lips: that a$$

If you'll have a rental car you should be fine to get basically anywhere in the DC Metro area from your location. If not, be prepared to be welcomed to the ghetto that is Springfield Mall. It'll take you about 10-15 minutes to walk to the Springfield Metro station from there. Uh, there's a bestbuy, a circuit city, a borders, a staples, a ruby tuesday's, a barnes and noble, and a home depot, and that doesn't include the whole Springfield Mall complex, which has a silver diner. across franconia, there's a trader joe's, some more chain restaurants i think, a mike's american grill, some other stuff. Basically there's very little within rational walking distance, I have no clue on bus transportation, but if you have a car you can get to basically anywhere within 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic.

There will be three of us (a Major, a Captain and me, a lowly Staff Sergeant) with a single rental car. I'm sure we'll get around and have a good time.

Curiously, why do you say, "the ghetto that is Springfield Mall?" Is it run down, over populated, unsafe, what? Will I have to G.I. Joe kung fu grip on someone trying to get some tater tots in the mall food court or something? 😀

It's not unsafe or anything like that. The clientele is slightly more immigrant and lower class comparitively speaking to the rest of the county. That area is a bit more industrial-esque due to the proximity to 95/495/395 (you'll probably be able to see the Mixing Bowl from your window). Since you have a car, you'll be fine. 95 North takes you to DC, 495 from Alexandria to Tyson's Corner, and the Fairfax County Parkway can go out to Fair Lakes and Reston. Just ask your fellow trainees who are stationed here where to go and I'm sure they'll have a bunch of recommendations.
