Hi,

Short version:
What are the must see destinations within a ~three hour flight of Hong Kong?

Long version:
I moved to Hong Kong from the US for work seven months ago, and I'll be based here for the next one to two years. By the time I leave I want to feel like I've seen it all, if that's possible. I don't have enough vacation for many extended trips, but I can do a ~three day trip every month or so. I'm not a huge culture nerd, not really into museums etc. But I enjoy being a stereotypical tourist for one to two days, briefly stopping by major attractions, then also checking out nightlife.

So far I've visited Taipei, Macao, Bangkok, Cebu, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Tokyo.

And these are on my wish list: Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Hanoi, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Phnom Penh, Hokkaido.

If you've been anywhere on my wish list, was it worth going to, and why? What places would you recommend that I failed to mention? If I get a chance to do a longer trip, what can I see that can't be done in a weekend?

Absolutely Phuket. That place is fantastic. Beautiful beach, beautiful people. Just awesome.

Then I'd go up to Chiang Mai, I've heard it's stunning up there.

OP, if you go to Hanoi, go to the old French quarter. Hurry before the land developers level it to build new apartments and department stores. If you want to see Ho Chi Minh, see his body in display.

Then head down to Saigon (HCM City), the financial capital of Vietnam. Go to Cu Chi (just outside of Saigon) and try to get down to the rat tunnels, just don't get stuck in it.

Head to Cambodia and see the temples outside the capital (Angkor Wat).

Try to visit Indonesia and Philippines if you can then to Australia, not too far from other ASEAN countries.
