I'm heading to the Philippines in 2 weeks.

I'll be bringing a midtower system along.

Is there any advice any of you can give me in terms of packing the tower unit along for the long trek?

Also, as soon as I'm there, are there any precautions (in terms of voltage, power, climate) I should take?

***

I'm either going to take my iCelery 850 and all the trimmings or an iP-166 MMX.

This is one of those times I wish I had a notebook instead of all these tower systems.

TIA...

i'd seriously think about renting a notebook if it's only two weeks, then use a utility to completely wipe away (and not just delete) all the data you input before returning it.
if you're gonna take your delicate rig, ( i shudder to think about all those knuckle-draggers that will be handling it) (i'm exaggerating for effect), then i'd get a hold of double-strength cardboard boxes, one for the monitor, the other for the tower, kybd, mickey, and all the other 'puter accoutrements worth taking. obviously, the trick is to immobilize the monitor and tower in the boxes with shock-absorbant materials: bubble-wrap, foam "peanuts", scrunched up newspaper, etc. such that the monitor and tower is securely "floating" in the hd boxes. make sure the box is loudly labelled with "delicate electrical components" all over. silica dessicant might help with controlling humidity while your equip't is in storage, but i'd find out if the dessicant might cause static electrical problems if put in the case itself.
and last but not least, i'd seriuosly consider selling your equipment while it's over there, as there might be some profitable advantages: due to the "free shipping" to get it there, the fact that it's used-(no duty?)it's probably in big demand, and how much use you've already gotten out of it, vs. sentimental value, etc.

I suggest taking out the motherboard, HD, ram, etc in carryon luggage with you. and buying a new case on site in philippines and reassembling it. So what if you waste 50 bucks on a case. Just make sure everything is packed nice and safe.

When I moved from California to Hawaii, I took my midtower as cabin baggage. I wrapped it in bubblewrap and carried it aboard (no worries going through the scanner).

Since it was too big to stow overhead, the flight crew took good care of it for me in their storage area.

The monitor and accesories went ahead of me via UPS air. INSURE it!

Take a Note Book with you if you must have a computer (it is cheaper to rent a note book for 2 weeks than the shipping for the puter case & monitor). Other wise you should just enjoy your self (do some sight seeing, catch some rays & mingle with the locals).

If you really don't want to get to know the local, and spend time with your machine over sea confused; then stuff the case with clothing, or packing popcorn, then put the case in a large second-hand hard case luggage stuff with clothing, or a bed foamy cut-out in the shape of your case...And, you're on your own with the monitor, because it have to be ship stuff & as a fagile package (wood case frame, box fill with packing material).
