What is the best way to get over from Ontario to the Hollywood area after 3pm?

i don't think you can really win no matter what. The straightest way is to take the 10 fwy all the way through but it's always a crapshoot.

you can use sigalert.com to check traffic before you leave.

How reliable is Google traffic? I know i'm gonna hit a mess on the way, I just want to know the best route and/or time to go after 3pm.

The "direct" way to go there is 10W 101N. You will want to kill yourself. 101N is going to be garbage from about 4-5pm - 7pm. ESPECIALLY since you have to pass through downtown...

You should be able to make good speed from 3-5, and then you will be bogged down to no end. If you're interested in a scenic "tour", I would say take the 10W all the way to La Cienega. Then take La Cienega north to Hollywood (which will take you around Hollywood/Sunset Blvd). You will pass through most of the upscale parts of LA, and end up in LA. If you need bombass food rec's, pm me ;)

Never tried google traffic but sigalert.com is fairly accurate. Of course during rush hour things can change fast. I would just take whatever freeway you are closer to. Definitely stay off the 101 and 405. I wouldn't head back before 6pm or the traffic will suck.

I've already done a decent tour of LA and holywood on my last trip. This time my wife wants some specific pictures and i'm trying to find a way over there during the week after work to get it done. Plus I want to swing by Studio City or whereever the Hollywood Harley is for a T-Shirt for the father in law.

Thanks for the tip. I planned on staying over that way till later to avoid the mess back, I just wasn't sure how long that would be. I'm hoping if I can get out of work early enough, I can skip into the area before the real madness starts.
