Anyone know what the temps are like in Santa Monica California between Xmas and Jan 4th?

I'm looking at taking a trip there but a beachfront view might not be soo good if its too chilly for the beach.

Thanks!

A sweater at night time would suffice since it is only chilly during then. I lived nearby Santa Monica (10 mins away) for the past 4 years (near UCLA) and it was never really cold, perhaps only a few days of rain, if any =)

I guess teh big question is, would it be beach weather? I mean would it be too cold to actually go in the ocean (you must pardon my ignorance, I know nothing of this place called Los Angeles).

I'm not TERRIBLY concerned about going to the beach, but it would be a BIG plus.

Well I am spoiled by LA weather (been living here since I was 7) so 80 degree would be cold for me. On average, I believe even during the winter time, the weather is still around the mid 70s, maybe even 80's. Is that beach weather enough for you?

lol honestly, I have no idea. :)

I haven't been to the beach since I was a little kid, and honestly I have no clue what temp it was. :)

Do many people go to the beach around christmas?

(see, just saying it sounds absurd to me, but here in MO its ARCTIC around Xmas).

If you are looking forward to romping on the beach in the warm sun between Xmas and Jan 4 of any year in Santa Monica you are dreaming. It's a helluva lot warmer than the Northeast, but it ain't exactly suntan weather.

lol I dunno what I'm looking for, honestly I am not really a beach person anyway. I MOSTLY want the view. I don't know that I would actually want to go into the ocean even if it were 110 outside. :)

I'd just like to know if I have the option is all. :)

I go to the beach all the time even during the winter time. Just because you are chicken shi!t and can't stand a bit of cold does not mean other people can't ;)

it's not uncommon, but it might be raining. don't bother. i personally find the water of california freezing and wouldn't go in there unless it's boiling outside.

i can't tell you what the temps will be - last winter it was rainy as hell the entire winter, 2 winters before i was wearing t-shirts everday. it DOES get cold in california, so just be prepared. it'll probably hit the 60's during the day, which to me, is cold.
