I'm trying to get from the Bay Area, California to the Phoenix area in Arizona, but damn, it's complicated.

I don't know if this link will work, but several thousand dollars for a one-way truck?

Anyone have any experience getting this sort of thing done without going broke? I guess I could ship some stuff, but I've got a dresser, desk, table, TV, computer and clothes.

Thanks.

That's a freaking ripoff.

I rented a 26' truck from Penske for $700 for three days and unlimted milage and with 3 dozen moving blankets this summer. UHaul is the absolute worse company to rent trucks from as well. Their trucks are nothing but trash.

I paid $150 to load the truck on one end, and $150 on the other end to have professional movers load/unload. I boxed items and drove the truck myself.

That's a total ripoff, and you want to stay far away from uhaul anyway. Itemize what you have and its value. If your furniture is all laminated particleboard type, it might make more sense to sell it or throw it away and pick up new stuff on the other side. If it's not disposable, consider dismantling the furniture to save space.

yea all the furniture is IKEA stuff so I could probably take it apart and jam it in a minivan or something with my TV and computer. Thanks for help.

Rental trucks must be more expensive on the west coast, I rented a small budgettruck for $650/1500 miles a few weeks ago. I second staying away from uhaul as their trucks are usually poorly maintained. Check out budget and penske, both have fairly new trucks and better price. Penske has a special rate for non weekend rentals. You can google a 10% off budget coupon and penske has 10% off web reservation on their site too.
