Tras=10 with NForce3

I am unable to reproduce any performance benefits of using a Tras value of 10, rather than the more commonly used 5 or 6. (Tras is the last number in the ram timings sequence, i.e. 2.5-3-3-6).

Has anyone been able to improve performance using a Tras of 10?

This is on NForce3-based mobos with Athlon64 CPUs.

Ram timings don't have much impact on A64 performance in general so I doubt anyone here has any conclusive proof that TRAS at 10 does anything, positive or negative...

Well, AnandTech mentioned it in their Socket754 article. Someone pointed that out to me, which is why I started investigating.

I was wondering the same thing myself, so I just ran the Doom 3 benchmark while only changing TRAS and I got the same result each time using 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. I scored 83 FPS on each run using 2-2-2-X-1T. Apparently, it makes no difference whatsoever. 😛

I know it used to make a difference with XP chips and nForce2 Ultra boards, but apparently it doesn't matter with A64 and nForce3 250 boards.

doobie
