Anyone know how much it would cost to transport a car by train from Colorado to Vancouver, BC?

My sister needs to bring her car back up here so I can sell it for her.

I wasn't aware you could do that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being cheaper to drive the car to Canada and then fly back.

Yes, that's probably true.

By truck or by train, it's going to be in the $400 to $800 range (it depends how far).

Or just rent a flatbed truck and put it on the back of that. Then the mileage doesn't get on the car... *shrug*

Amtrak only offers this on east coast, limited deal, :(

Requirements for travel on Auto Train

Amtrak's Auto Train travels non-stop between Lorton, Virginia (LOR) and Sanford, Florida (SFA). There are no intermediate stops.

To book an Auto Train reservation:
· Click the reservations link on the left.
· Enter your Departure Station (LOR or SFA)
· Enter your Destination Station (LOR or SFA)
· Enter your travel dates and the number of passengers

You will be guided through the booking process including adding your vehicle type (required) and accommodations, if desired. When traveling on Amtrak?s Auto train, you (and your party, if applicable) must travel with an automobile, van, SUV or motorcycle.

Be sure your vehicle meets these following conditions. Not all vehicles can be accommodated on Auto Train. Further conditions may apply. If you have any questions about special Auto Train requirements, call 1-800-USA-RAIL for more information.

Autos must have 4 inches of ground clearance and must not exceed 65 inches in height.
Space is limited for oversized vehicles such as vans and SUVs; these spaces must be specifically reserved in advance. Maxium height allowable for oversized vehicles is 85 inches.
We cannot carry automobiles with temporary luggage racks or bicycle racks, or with luggage packed or bicycles loaded on the roof. Empty factory-installed racks are acceptable if they are within the specified height limit.
Limited space is available to transport motorcycles. Only standard, factory-model two-wheel motorcycles can be accepted. We cannot carry motorcycles with side cars. Passengers assist in securing and removing their motorcycles.
Motorcycles must have a minimum of 5 inches clearance between the lowest portion of the frame and the bottom of the tires.
Auto Train does not offer checked baggage service. Passengers may carry an overnight bag on board - include any medications. All other baggage may be packed inside your automobile. We suggest that you lock items in the trunk of your car or in the glove compartment and retain the key. Passengers do not have access to their vehicles while they are on the train.
Even though departure is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., you must arrive early. No oversized vehicles or motorcycles are accepted after 2:00 p.m., and no cars are accepted after 3:00 p.m. Please note that traffic delays are common in the Washington, DC area en route to the Lorton, Virginia station

I shipped my truck from Montreal to Vancouver. I think it cost around 1000 cnd.

Where in Colorado? I've driven from Vancouver to the Colorado boarder in 22 hours.

You're best bet is to use a Drive Away services... do a search in Google for something in your area. Definitely the cheapest alternative.
