I keep a close watch on both my local craigslist and the one in my brother's city and saw an awesome deal on a 30" lcd. He got the monitor, but we have a small problem. How am I going to get it? He's coming to visit in about a month, but it's a bit large for a carryon and I really don't want to let the goons who handle luggage even get near it with a 10' pole.

It was NIB, so we have the box and foam bits to help protect it.

Dimensions w/o Base (WxHxD) 27.2"x17.9"x3.3"
with the box, it's significantly larger

My best idea is to somehow convince the airline to let him take it as a carryon, but it is pretty big.

Other than shipping it (which really wouldn't be much different than sticking it in the luggage), any ideas?

Cut it in half and send one half Fed Ex and the other UPS. Then let us know which half gets there first.

when you order them from an online retailer they just slap the shipping lable on the box, it shoudl be fine that way

or place it in a bigger box with packing panuts and what not

Have it sent by a delivery service - FedEx, UPS, DHL, USPS, etc. Original packing should be just fine.

Get a bigger box and put some bubble wrap/packing peanuts around it? Enough of that stuff, and it'll survive anything.

I'd probably use a delivery service as well. It wouldn't cost very much more, the packaging that it originally came in is probably sufficient, and if it's damaged, it's not going to be your fault. Worth the 30 or so dollars it would cost to ship it, IMO.

Don't put your brother through all the hassle of lugging that thing around the airport / on the plane. Have him pack it properly and ship it off to you (I suggest FedEx.) You will get it before he visits you.

I had a 30" Dell LCD. Got a good deal on CL also. Trust me, that box is HUGE.. Much bigger than you might expect.. I sold it to a guy with an Accord and we barely fit it in the back of his Accord. It's NOT carryon luggage.
