Transparent FTP server redundancy

A public FTP server (behind a router) is currently routed to a T1 line. An SDSL is on standby incase the T1 goes down. Is there a commericial router that can automatically "switch" to the other connection if the main one fails? This should be transparent to all incoming and outgoing users.

Just about any router can do that, commercial ones at least.

You're biggest problem is going to be addressing. Best bet is to get both connections from the same provider so you can keep the same "public" ip address or IP network.

Yes, I should've mentioned that. Incoming users would use only 1 public IP (e.g. 200.200.200.200). If this public IP goes down, the router should automatically route the incoming traffic to the backup DSL line. However, incoming users would still use the 200.200.200.200 IP, ergo, it's transparent to them. Is this possible?

Well the problem is the provider and whether or not they would route that IP.

Otherwise if they will then you're dealing with simple network address translation and routing - any commerical router will be fine.

Well looking at that link it seems like that can do it.

I'm used to working with commercial stuff where we're dealing with networks, not just single IP addresses.

That product seems to do what you need with the "virtual server" feature.
