I found out that if I shift into first really quick (from a dead stop), I can hear the gears grind. Is it a symptom of a syncro on its way out? Thanks.
Possible, but more likely your clutch is not spinning down fast enough, do this quick test.
Shift into first at idle, quickly shift into reverse gear, if it grinds, the clutch is not adjusted properly (cable operated) or the clutch is not being fully disengaged because of air in the system (Hydraulic clutch), or there is a faulty master cyclinder or slave cylinder.
