I just flushed the pan and use regular dextron III oil..

I just read that youre supposed to use ATF+3 in this tranny.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!

edit:

now that I know i put the wrong tranny oil in it, i have to drive with it tomorrow (5 hours of driving total until i can change it again. Should i risk driving with the dextron III or should I get a ride from someone else?

Thanks again!

Yep some hyundais call for ATF+3
You can get a semi-syn trans fluid that will work for it and also cover the ATF+4 spec at wal-mart. Supertech brand.

Trans fluid

ATF+3 is an automatic transmission/transaxle fluid specially formulated for DaimlerChrysler Corporation vehicles, including Dodge, Plymouth, Eagle and certain Jeeps, that require a fluid meeting Chrysler specification MS-7176E® and earlier Chrysler specifications. It is also recommended for Mitsubishi and Hyundai applications where an MS-7176 type fluid is specified.

ok heres another problem, all the stores are shut right now and I have about 4 hours of driving to do before I can go buy a better oil...

Will it damage the transmission if I use what I have now?

Thanks again!

It might slip a little so yea some damge MIGHT take place. Also is there not a 24hour wal-mart or autozone open?

Look for a Multi-vehicle forumla or universal semi-syn fluid that meets the ATF+3/4 spec.
