my overachieving workaholic uncle retired. his firm kissed his ass on the way out the door. 1 week later, he couldn't take the boredom any more, called the firm, an they immediately took him back for 1/2 the time and more money. yes, he drives everyone insane.

I dunno, my dad retired a couple years ago and hasn't stopped working on one project or another since. If he's not golfing then he's boating, working on the house or traveling with my mom.

He does involve himself with some side business projects though, usually as a consultant for non-profits.

My boss retired but went back to work because he was bored and his wife wanted him out of the house. I can't understand that at all.

I think the stages will vary by the person and what age they retire at. A person who retires at 45 or 50 will have a different experience than someone who retires at 65 or 70.

i'm not looking forward to the last stage.

Phase 6: Termination of Retirement
Eventually the retirement role becomes less relevant in the lives of older adults. When a person can no longer live independently due to disability or illness, the role of disabled elder becomes the primary focus of his or her life.

oh man.. my parents will be going thru this stage soon :Q :(
