Transforming Acer Desktop, need recommendations?

So I found my older Acer X1420G-U5832 desktop that I had completely forgotten about for probably a couple of years. Now that I've gotten back into computers, I'd like to upgrade this thing into something a bit more capable than what it is right now.

I could really use some recommendations on cases, power supplies and such.

Here's what I have planned so far:
Upgrade to 8GB
AMD Phenom II X4 965
Samsung Evo SATA SSD, maybe 512 GB
Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
Case with provisions for good cable routing
Case with room for upgraded cooling

Wants:
Case with RGB
Viewing panel (Tempered Glass)

Any ideas on parts? Trying to do this on a budget, but the budget isn't too strict and I am willing to wait to be able to get some of the parts I want. Thanks for any recommendations provided.

If I understand your post correctly the only thing that you keep from the old Acer is the Mobo.

It does not seem worth while to put all the money that you plan to spend and end up with an Old Mobo running x4 965 processor.

Budget?
Sorry: nothing really worth retaining/re-using from that old system.
Not even the PSU would be capable of properly supporting a "modern" CPU.
I'd suggest, something newer purchased as used off of Craig's List, or else an all new system. Maybe an already assembled desktop machine from Dell, HP or Lenovo.
8Gb of either DDR3 or DDR4 memory would be a minimum requirement. DDR2 is simply too "ancient".
A used Intel i5-3470 CPU & 8Gb DDR3 "Ivy Bridge" system would be somewhat acceptable. Check eBay and/or Craig's List. But more preferable would be something with 8 Gb DDR4 inside.

get a phenom x6 and put in there. I picked up a 1040 for I think $37 on ebay. for multi threaded its an upgrade and cheap. I noticed a difference from upgrading from an athon II x2

Well, not the most power-efficient chip, but yeah, a Phenom II X6 is fairly powerful, at least as powerful as a 3.5Ghz FX-6300, for most things, I think. OC the X6 to 3.5Ghz if you can (if it's a 95W CPU, it might hit 125-130W). Should be good to go for a couple more years.

I ended up doing something completely different, it really doesn't even seem to me to be a good idea to try and reuse the parts for what I would like to do, so I'll likely just get a cheap low profile gpu with HDMI and hook it up to a TV as an HTPC or something. Today I picked up something much better and much more expandable and more potential.

I picked up a Dell Precision T3500 for just under $70.

CPU: Intel Xeon W3520
GPU: AMD ATI FirePro V3750
RAM: 8GB DDR3
HDD: 320GB

What I'll put in it is a 120GB SSD and 1TB WD Caviar Black I have on hand and look for a used graphics card. At least with this, I can definitely play games and do other things like photo editing and have tons of storage in one place. Also, the CPU upgrades for this one are pretty good and don't cost too much and getting lots of DDR3 ram will also not be a limiting factor with the 6 ram slots and factory limit with current CPU is 24 GBs and other CPUs is 48 or possibly more.

Thanks all for the advice.
