My TF used to be able to connect to my PC and my Mac so I could do file copies and transfers. A few days ago I was running low on space and deleted some old music and movies and stuff that was in the ASUS folder. Now I can connect to any PC or mac. I thought maybe I deleted something so I decided to update the rom with the official file from asus but I copied the file to the root of sdcard and the root of external sdcard and booted into recovery but get an exclamation mark on the andoid guy.

1. Why wont this damn thing connect to my computers NOW when it did before? Did I delete something on the TF that would allow this? I downloaded all the usb drivers and sync SW from asus for the PC and Mac but no go.

2. How the hell to I restore the rom from the update file?

I am not rooted and run completely on stock.

I have never managed to connect my Transformer to my desktop Win7 computer. The computer never recognizes the device when I plug it in. Please let me know how to fix it.

If I find a fix i'll let you know. The wierd crap is that I have been connecting this TF to my xp systems and my mac systems without any problems. In fact I found it easier to connect on my MBP as all I had to do was download the android file transfer program.

There was a folder on my TF's sdcard called /asus, which I deleted. I had "Show system files" checked and deleted the folder contents. Thats the only thing I did before it stopped mounting on my systems. The cable charges the tf and when I pug it into either my mac or pc the screen does turn on but no asus pc synch prompt like it used to. And on PC based systems it says unknown usb device, but wont let me or is not able to install drivers. I am thinking there was some sw or driver that needs to be pulled from the asus directory on the tf that I deleted. If thats tha case, fine, I than need to know where/how to put the update.zip file so I can restore this tf to a working state and hopefully it will rebuild that /asus directory and put back whatever it needs.

I copied the 250mb file to the root of sd and did the power - vol+ but the recovery craps out. dont know why. maybe its in the wrong directory?

Can you try a factory reset to defaults? I dont know what is in that ASUS folder but will check tonight. But suspect it contains syncing software and drivers for the device. I have hooked my Transformer into multiple Win7 boxes without an issue.

I'd rather not as I have 16gbs of stuff I would like to keep, and being that it will no longer connect to any computer I cant copy it off. Well, I could copy to external sd card and the put the card into a computer, but its a pita.

Where do I put the firmware file to force an update? I thought I put the zipped file from asus' website in the root of scdard but that didnt work. I also put it in the root of the external card but that too did not work.

Yeah, I wrote that on my phone and dropped a couple of words. :) I meant "please let me know how you fix it". :)

I never tried very hard to get it working... it seemed like a driver problem in my case... but I couldn't figure it out.
