ok- heres my problem. ive got some really big files on my pc (running XP). i want to burn them on a dvd, but the only dvd burner ive got access to is on one of the macs. they refuse to recognize each other over the network (airport extreme), so ive got to do it some other way. can i use my ipod (which i sync with a different mac than these 2) with the pc?

You can do it with an iPod, but you're going to need to reformat it for PC format first using Apple's PC restore utility. Once you do that, the PC will be able to read the device(since it'll be FAT32 vs. HFS+), and you can put files on there and pull them off on your Mac. Just make sure the Mac you sync the iPod with has all of the iPod's music first, as reformating the iPod will erase it.

You need to install the correct protocol on either the Mac (Windows networking services or something similar) or on the PC (AppleTalk).

OS X supports windows filesharing natively now. Just create an account and a share with the proper permissions on the PC side and then connect to the PC. Should be easy as pie.
