Transferring Title: Need Paper Notarize

Our DMV offices sell notary services for a fee. Go check your bank. It may offer free notary service.

Are you sure you can avoid a tax that way? I thought all title transfers incur a sales tax.

Not if they transfer it to a family member:

Only reason I am doing this is because my car insurance company will not give me my own insurance if my car is not under my name....grr

what is there to notarize? just have everything signed and bring a copy of that family member's license to the dmv

I just did this today. No notarizing needed in Wisconsin at least.

Back of the title needed to be signed by both parties, dated, and current mileage.

I had to fill out a form (printed from the dmv website).
It could have been mailed if I had a set of plates to transfer, but I didn't. I went in and the total process including waiting took about 15 minutes.
