Hello there, I am going to be transferring my company primary domain controller from a P3 1.26 Ghz server to a dual P4 3.2 server... Obviously the architecture is significantly different, but is there a program out there that will allow us to transfer? I figured something like symantec ghost or drive image might work, but thought I would get some input. Thanks!

The tricky thing is that we use RAID-1 for our system partition and then our storage partitions are on a 3 disk RAID-5 array.. Will this transferring still work? What utility do you use, the network method may be the best.

Since you mentioned a PDC I'll assume you're in an NT 4.0 domain?
If so, just add the new server to the domain as a Backup domain controller then promote it to the PDC.

As far as moving your files, you can just copy them over the network.

well our current PDC is win2k, and the new system is win2k3, will that still work?

Is this a tricky process? Thanks!

Here is an article that should give you idea of what is involved

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;325379

It discusses upgrading domain controllers to 2003 and also adding Win2K3 DC's to Win2K domains.

This process is quite a bit more involved than the old method of adding / Promoting a BDC
