transferring songs to an iPod from PC & Mac: is it possible?

I was told yesterday that once you downloaded songs to your iPod from a Mac, that you couldn't then transfer songs to it from a PC without losing everything you put on it from the Mac (and vice versa). Is this accurate?
 
check on ipod forum/bb... i have the program for doing it on pc.. not familar w/ macs..
(unless they are big macs! ) :roll:
