Transferring songs from iPod Touch

Little bit of help here (bit of a bad mood here, as per usual when dealing with iDevices).

My sister's iPod touch doesn't seem to support any sort of mass storage drive mode to transfer songs manually. No iTunes installed on my own pc, nor do I want to bother with any third-party software. What do I need to do to access the iPod's storage directly and get the songs copied?

Been there already. Even tried a couple 3rd party programs, though the only ones that gave me any results I need to pay for to transfer the entire library (Copytrans, and Sharepod). I'm not going to pay as I have no use for the software (beyond the occasional Apple device someone wants help with), nor is my sister apparently as she lacks a job, so another solution is needed.

edit: sorry if I'm coming off as short tempered here. Just a hate-hate relationship with Apple's devices.

Then there is no answer. If you don't want iTunes, and you don't want to pay...

Yeah. iOS devices don't support mass storage mode, full stop. It'll let you get at photos and video through the normal USB Camera methods though.

So you have to use third party software.

Or you can jailbreak it and use a number of file-transfer utilities that are free. (Even ssh.)

How did she get the songs onto her Touch in the first place? That may help to resolve the situation.

She wants the songs backed up due to a HDD crash on the parent's old desktop.

iFunBox is free and seems to work even with iOS 7. It may take some digging, and she may have to rename her files, but they'll be there.

I HIGHLY recommend installing iTunes and paying for iTunes Match. With that, anything that she has that Apple also has on the store can be redownloaded at 256k AAC as part of the service. Anything else is uploaded to their servers so you can redownload it whenever you like onto your iDevices/ Macs/ PCs/ aTVs/ Whatevers.

Also, if she has purchased the music through iTunes, then it can be re-downloaded at will these days.

Thankfully, I won't be needing to download iTunes to my own PC. I popped open the parents PC and found the IDE cable (yes, the machine is that old) had popped loose, most likely when we moved. Machine booted up, and I moved the music over to my own external drive ASAP. The new roadblock, the songs my sister purchased on her device requires "reviewing" her account information to transfer them over to the iTunes library. To do that apparently requires debit/credit card info or gift card number, neither of which she has. So, I stopped right there. Payment info is not my problem. (such a nice brother I am :sneaky

Thanks for the help everyone. Suppose I'll count myself lucky here. Unfortunately, I doubt the parents will take my advice after I told them to grab an external drive, but not much I can do.

I believe you need to select on a free app first, and then the None option appears, but that seems to only work when you first start your account, as I did using the iPod Touch itself awhile ago.
