My xbox 360 is starting to get kind of flaky - it displays odd textures and stuff like it's overheating even though I've kept it spotless. I have a best buy warranty so it's not a big deal....

....except for all of my saved gamed and live arcade

The xbox I have now is the 20gb version, but I was thinking I'd pay the difference and get the 120gb version. Is there an easy way to transfer my stuff?

But since he's going to be completely replacing the old console via Best Buy's PRP, will he have the opportunity to do this himself? I don't know how Best Buy's replacement plan works, but I imagine if you're willing to fork over more money for an upgrade they would be willing to work with you a bit. Perhaps they've encountered this situation enough that they will do it automatically for you in the service area.

You're right. I missed that part. That would be something worth asking the BB people. I wouldn't be surprised if they charged him a fee.

If not, you'll probably have to go get a 512MB memory card and transfer all your game saves over and redownload everything you purchased.

That's freaking stupid...

Has anyone figured out another way to transfer stuff over? I mean the xbox has an ethernet port and usb connections... There's gotta be a way other than a MS product

How is it stupid?

Short of chipping your XBox, don't think there's another way.

You can get the transfer kit free of charge from Microsoft, but you need the serial off your old and your new XBox. (You could go into the store and write down the number of an Elite if you can find one)

When I got a new Xbox to replace my RRoD box, I just swapped HDDs. But if you're going to an elite (why?!) then you're in trouble me thinks. MS is going to try to get you to pay money for data migration. It's irritating to think about.

He can get the cable for free from Microsoft. He won't be dealing with MS directly as his PRP is through Best Buy...he'd have to work it out with them.

Right... and I have this sinking feeling that they aren't going to let me take my old xbox home with me to do the transfer (if I have the cable)...

I want an elite because it has a bigger harddrive and my current xbox is acting up so I might as well upgrade.
