to a ipod? I can view the contents of the ipod on the win xp pro, but when trying to copy a music file win xp pro to the ipod, there's no options like send to, paste etc, etc. ? ? Can anyone lend a hand please?

I thought, that with an iDevice, you had to install iTunes for Windows, and then create your music library on the HDD on the PC, and then "sync" the device with your music library, and then somehow the music ends up on the device.

Yes, a regular cheapo MP3 player that shows up as a USB Mass Storage device when plugged into the PC is much easier. Just use Explorer.exe to copy music files over to the device.

Time for iTunes, Apple Updater, bonjour, maybe quicktime, what else does apple install just to copy files from one folder to another?

Will add to what ninaholic37 said, buy a sansa device and be free.
