Transferring mp3s onto the iRiver H10 20GB

I'm considering purchase of an iRiver H10, and I'm wondering if anyone knows if you can simply drag & drop MP3s onto it.

It indicates that it appears as a drive letter when you attach it, so can you just copy stuff straight over and play it?

All the documentation talks about using Windows Media Player 10 to transfer music to it which is exactly the kind of garbage I'm trying to avoid.

I just want a decent sized hard drive based mp3 player I can just drag music onto, no fussing around with WMP or any other crap like that.

Anyone know if this is possible?

If it's anything like my iRiver H320, there's a "Media" and "Data" port on it. I plug into the Data port and it acts like an external HD. I've never tried the Media port since that's for transferring DRM'd WMA's, which would explain why the H10 might want Windows Media Player.

If you do end up getting an iRiver, I suggest taking a look at misticriver.net. It's a great source for iRiver enthusiasts.

I just checked misticriver and it seems as though you do have to use WMP or some other "Portable Devices" wizard to transfer files. There are some other threads about mods for it though; one of them being UMS. Supposedly you can trick the player to go into "Emergency Mode" and it'll work like an external hdd. Then you use a program called EasyH10 to get your music to appear in the Music Menu rather than just the Browse Menu.

All of this info is on misticriver.net if you want to read up.

Hey Random query, evne if the music appears only in the browse menu, is it still playable? Or does it have to be on the music menu to be played?
