Transferring mp3's from PC to Mac

An uncrossed RJ45 cable should do the job too, on newer Macs.

In OS X, go to System Preferences > Sharing > Services and activate "Windows Sharing". PCs then should be able to write to the User directory of the Mac. In case this doesn't work, try FTP sharing.

well both the hp laptop and the iMac are both on the same network..could I do it without a crossover cable? If I need the cable, could you point me to a FAQ or guide that would show me how to transfer? Thanks for the help!

Is it a wireless network? Is there a VPN or anything unusual in this network?

If there is no VPN, activate Windows sharing like I described above. The System Preferences window then displays the path you have to type to connect the Windows computer to the iMac. The path goes like this:

\\IP of the iMac\Account Name without spaces

p.e.

\\10.0.1.4\joedoe
or
\\192.168.1.8\bartsimpson

If you only have access to a WLAN/LAN with VPN or other limits, you can start your own wireless network and connect the Windows computer in a similar way.

Yeah..I don't think I even have an RJ-45 laying around anywhere. It's only 4 gigs It shouldn't take to long.
