Transferring from a JC (Junior-College/Community College) to a University?

I don't know how they do it in California. But in Washington you can get an AAUCT (Associate of Arts-University College Transfer) degree at any community college and transfer to a university within the state. The universities ask for your HS transcript to complete your file, but they don't make any decisions based on your GPA. The only GPA they look at is that of the AA degree and most universities have a minimum grade point to get in, usually 2.75 to 3.0. Also, SAT scores are NOT required. I took it just for the hell of it, but was under no pressure whatsoever. Nice thing about transferring is that it's non-competitive. Basically if you meet the GPA requirement with your junior college work, you're guarenteed in. It's definately an awesome alternative if your high school grades weren't spectacular and you still want to get into a good school.

I just transferred to RIT from the local community college(MCC). I was homeschooled since before highschool, and had to get a GED for a diploma. When I went to Monroe Community college for Computer Science I started in elementary algebra. I had to work real hard to get all the way through calcIII and university physics. Anyway, when I transferred to RIT they accepted all of my courses(except my five math classes prior to calcI). They judge based solely on your two-year college course list and GPA. Highschool is deemed irrelevant if your grades in actual college courses are alright.

I don't think it works very well out-of-state. Even with my decent JC grades, Cal State wouldn't accept me. 🙂

Ok cool, my GPA right now blows.

Urban aren't you asian? You should be graduating high school two years early and getting a full-ride scholarship to some fabulous U. The junior college method is only for white trash, like myself. 🙂

LOL true. Anyways, my mom when she was younger went to a "Physic" in Vietnam and told me these two things. My father would die before her (He smokes and has lung problems) and someone "boy" in the family would not do good in school (me). Maybe it's just meant to be 🙁

<< Anyways, my mom when she was younger went to a "Physic" in Vietnam and told me these two things. >>

I assume you misspelled that word on purpose, which is why you quoted it?

I don't think they'll be checking for you SAT scores or anything that has to do with your performance in highschool.

They'll be assuming that you're a screw-up since you have to go to a JC.

So yeah, don't worry about anything other than your college GPA 🙂

Actually I'm transferring from a community college to university next semester. I've never taken an sat/act and won't need too. They'll want my HS transcript for records, but primarily the decision will be based on my current college career. If you decide that you're going to a community colleg ein HS first, slack in hs.......i did 😉

they will request for ur high school transcript to vericy that u qualified to apply when you were in high school or else they have tougher standards for admission as in gpa and courses to take.

Its way easier to get in to a University from a JC; the schools give priority to the transfers. But being a big time slacker, you might have a tough time, pulling that B in PE and all.

🙂

some California community colleges have articulation agreements with the UC and Cal State system... do what's called the IGETC program, get a good gpa (3.0+) and you'll get in to most of the UC's... 3.5 at least for Berkeley, if not a 4.0... you might be able to pull UCLA with a 3.3. Check out [L]www.assist.org[/L] too- they list all the classes that are transferrable from a JC to a UC. USC has an articulation agreement with some JC's too, at least around my area (OCC, IVC, Mt. Sac, Fullerton JC)

they won't. not even SAT too. but they will check your HS DIPLOMA just to check did you ever Graduated from HS, (or you can take a GED, but that's kinda stupid)

and ditto to bUnMaNgo

Exactly what Andy said. I'm in CA too by the way. Also check out the transfer programs from JC to Universities. They always have these "contracts" that you sign to guarantee admission into a UC.

I was a transfer student and they only checked my GPA (and if you have great recommendation letters)...I know I wouldn't have gotten into Univ. w/ my HS grades. So I don't think they check HS grades.

GoldenBear -- I believe you need at least 35 units (for some schools a min of 60 units) in order to transfer. Normally, you stay in JC for 1 year 1/2 to 2 years.

most of the time you need to be at Junior standing- which is either 60 semester units, or 90 quarter units. 1 quarter unit is equivalent to 3/4 semester units, and 1 semester unit is equivalent to 4/3 quarter units, I think.

You mean 2/3 and 3/2?

And so how many units is one class exactly?
