Transferring files from a PC to an Apple

Does the Mac recognize cd and dvds burned in a PC?
Can I just put all the documents, music, etc on a cd or dvd and then just put it in a Mac?

Sorry for the noob question.

Thanks.

Yep. They are both computers, just a dif is.

As long as the appropriate application for each file type is on the mac you will have no problems. As Oyeve said, the Mac will have no problem reading the data. Just keep in mind that the right app needs to be there to be able to open each file.

Forget buying anything that costs more than $5. Get an ethernet cable and network those mofos.

Depends on the filesystem used. Usually a CD or DVD uses ISO9660 or UDF both of which are universally supported. But it's very possible to use any other filesystem like FAT, ext2, etc and have a disc that won't be readable in some systems.

If you just drag/drop from Windows you'll be fine.

Best answer.

Only works if your in the same house.

Try running an ethernet cable 100 miles (from my house to my moms house) to transfer 12 gigs of pictures and videos of Christmas.

Try running an ethernet cable from Texas to California to send a years worth if pictures to my wifes sister.

My wife can throw 500 gigs of pictures and videos on a passport drive and mail it to her sister. It will be there in about 3 - 5 days.

Well yea, and I might be reading you wrong, but I am not sure how you could take my statement in such a way as to warrant that kind of persnickity response.

And why would I want to send anything to your wife's sister?

You didn't specify the distance requirement anywhere in the thread; that changes things considerably. OSX can read an ntfs formatted drive.

Your statement was very clear - forget anything that cost more then $5. Your $5 answer is not a one size fits all solution.

My wife and I use both a passport drive and the network to move files. If we are going to someones house and want to show them pictures or videos, we will load up the passport and take it with us. If my wife wants copies of pics I took, they will go on the network.

I'am even using a couple of passport drives for external databackup.

Your answer is also not a one size fits all solution either. And, IMO, nothing about what I said warrants the tone I got from you.
