Hi Everyone,

I would like to connect my laptop to my home computer and transfer large files. I bought a cross over cable. How do I setup both workstations (both running XP) to transfer files? I assume I could always setup a folder and "share" it.

Will sharing make my computer vulnerable to the internet (hackers trying to get into my computer) and such?

What would be the securest way? Maybe remote desktop onto one computer and transfer the files?

It would be as vulnerable as your main computer is?

Since you did not provided information about your Inteenet connection, and what you are using to protect your main system, there is No way to give a meaningful answer.

Just plug the cable in and run the Network Setup Wizard (you should have no problem answering the questions it gives you). Then, just copy and paste the files you want to transfer into the other system's Shared Documents folder.

If you're only using the connection to transfer some files (i.e. it won't be a 24/7 setup with ICS), don't worry about hackers and such. It's a good idea to make sure you have some up-to-date antivirus software running on both systems, but that's just common sense.

Good luck, hope that works out easily for you.
