Transferring files b/t computers

Is a crossover cable the easiest way to transfer files between a Win 2000 and XP computer?
And if so, how exactly is this done?

I'd think a cheap $10 hub would be more effective. You can use a crossover cable, you just plug it in to each pc's network card. Sometimes it is a bit of a pain to get them to see each other though.

If you get a crossover cable or a hub you will have to assign IP addresses to them both on the same network
like
192.168.1.10
192.168.1.20
Also you will need to make sure each computer has a name. which can be found in the system properties
and to make it easiest make sure they are on the same workgroup

Then share a folder out with full permission and go to network neighborhood or
start run and type \\computernameurtryingtogetfilesfrom
`dq
