Have: 30GB HD in a computer with only 10GB used...
Want: to have that computer run off a new 15GB HD...
Need: a way to "ghost" everything over so all the drivers for the other hardware in the comp are there

Thanks for any advice.

Norton Ghost is really easy to install and it is a very nice program, but make sure that you allocate enough space for it, based on my experience the compression is not quite 2:1 and you will need nearly the same amount of space for the backup. After that you can just transfer and extract it again with Ghost :)

will it work if the destination drive is smaller than the source? each drive is just one large partition. Should I partition the 30GB into the size of the 15gb?

Norton/Symantec Ghost or Drive Image Pro.

Either one should do the job nicely. Ghost from the 30 gig to the 15 gig, format the 30 gig, transfer the ghost image onto the 30, & then restore from the 30 to the 15. Or you could create a second partition on the 30 gig & avoid using the 15 until you're resdy to restore the image.

now that i think abt it, i'd rather just have a cleanly installed O/S but have none of the drivers for the hardware in that computer... can i just get by w/ burning a disk of everything in c:\windows\inf and c:\windows\system?
