My friend wants to transfer media files (.mp3,.mpg, etc.) from his Win XP laptop to his Mac OS X laptop. I am going to try and have the two computers on the same LAN and have the Win XP be a FTP server with the mac downloading the files from the Win XP computer using a FTP client. Will this work and/or is there a better way? Thanks in advance for your help.

This works, as would making the Mac the FTP server instead(which is really easy since the ftpd is already built-in and tied to existing user accounts). However, there's nothing wrong with making the Windows machine a FTP server either.

I think nweaver's suggestion is better. I always use samba for that sort of thing. But between my macs I use AFP :p
