Transfering Fallout 3 DLC to a new OS

Just a quick question about Fallout 3 DLC. I'm currently running Windows 7 RC1 as my primary OS on my new rig. Of course I'm going to buy the full version when it comes out in October, and I'll have to do a clean install. I want to buy Broken Steel but I'm not sure if there would be any DRM issues. I know console DLC cannot be transfered over to a different system. With Steam, it's tied to your account, not the system. I'm not sure how it works with Live. I just don't want to go buying it then end up having to rebuy it in four months time.

I've had to manually install the DLCs cause my GFW is on a different drive than my Fallout 3 add-on. To do so, you have to find out where GFW "hides" all the content. In that folder, there is what appears to be a license attached to the file. I am not sure, but my guess is that you can transfer/copy those over. Otherwise they're attached to your GFW account, and you can bitch to Microsoft.

Sigh. This is why I got out of PC gaming to begin with.
Fortunately, I do keep my games on a separate HDD from the OS and most of the older ones transfer over just fine. It's just the recent changes that have made things such a PITA.

WTF, this is the stupidest thing ever. It's digital content, why can't you redownload it on your account anywhere?

It is NOT tied to your account. In the hidden folder located in Documents and Settings the .esm files are all there. Simply copy those over into your Fallout3/Data folder and your in business.

To go a little off topic, if you don't like it don't buy the damn games with bad DRM. /facepalm

It's a very simple concept.

Does the license file make any difference? I just copy the .esm and other video files (if available) from that "hidden" folder to the Fallout 3 folder, and they work fine. I'm assuming that when you log into GFW when you load up the game, it makes a check. Not sure though.

Actually, both Fallout 3 and Oblivion don't use active DRM . Just an old fashioned disc check. I wasn't sure about the DLC though. DRM is one of the reasons why I got fed up of PC gaming in general once the install limit and phoning home crap started. It just started getting too invasive for my liking plus a lot of those games were causing problems with my system. Games like that I just buy for my PS3 instead. To be honest, I just bought the PC version so I could play around with cheats and mods. lol

You can, just have to log in into your GFWL account and redownload. Its linked to your account, so really no different to steam (just more buggy it seems :p).
