Transfering an expired domain

Hi,

I would like to ask you about domain name transferring, and how it works in my specific situation.

I've payed for a domain, let's say mydomain.com, for a full year. Then developed a site for a small company, something just to stay on the web.

Now the company want to create a bigger site, and they want the domain. The thing is, the domain has expired, and so I have no control over it anymore.

Still, the domain whois still presents my name on it, and my registrar just shows it on my account, with status expired.

My questions are:

Shouldn't it be available at this time?
How can I transfer the domain, if I don't own it anymore?
Is the registrar holding the record? Is this normal?
What actions should I take to allow someone else to pick the domain? Should I pay an extension and require the transfer?

Thanks.

Contact the Domain Registrar immediately and renew the registration if possible. You can work out a transfer later. Otherwise, the Registrar will sell the Domain name and whoever buys it will want a lot of money to sell it back. There are people who specialize in buying up expired Domains like this. They WILL buy it as soon as it's available for purchase.

If it expired on say..feb 1st, and now you want it back..you should be able get it back, since they hold it for you for 30 days, then they release it to the world to register. Some of this depends on the registrar, sometimes they hold it hostage for 30-60 days and require a huge lump of cash to get it back, typically x,xxx range.

In other words, email/call/contact the registrar asap.
