Transfer your old number today !!!

From Amazon.com:

Do you want to switch cell phone carriers but keep your current cell phone number? You're in luck. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is requiring all carriers to support Wireless Local Number Portability, which is a service that allows customers to keep their cell phone number when they switch carriers. The FCC also passed rules allowing you to transfer your current home landline phone number to a cell phone. This means that you can order a cell phone from most of the carriers offered by Amazon.com and transfer your current wireless or wireline number to your new service. Carriers are required to begin offering number portability on November 24, 2003, to the top U.S. metropolitan areas (but you don't have to wait until then to order your phone from Amazon.com--you can order your phone immediately and transfer your number November 24).

Transferring your cell phone number is easy when you order from Amazon.com. You won't have to wait in line at a store while your number is transferred from your previous carrier to your new one. And, in some cases, you will be assigned a temporary phone number for your new phone so that you can use it until your transfer is completed (you can even forward your calls from your current phone to your new phone in the interim). Best of all, when you buy a cell phone from Amazon.com and transfer your number, you will still qualify for all of our great rebates and discounts.

Each of the carriers handles number portability a bit differently, so we've outlined carrier-based instructions below.

this means i can get my new phone tomorrow and get my number transferred in a week !!!

they are wrong. This can only be done in the top ten or so major markets as of right now. The other markets still have around a year.

My bro in law just opened a cell shop yesterday. I'm going to ask him about this. Anyone need any accessories? 😉 I'm going to rape all the ebay sellers by selling stuff cheaper.!!

No, you wont. I have bought accessories for my Motorolla T730 for a penny each(car chargers, cases, etc). Shipping is $6 first item, then $1.50 each additional item. For around 3-4 a pop, you can get any accessory you need.

i want a cell phone that can play the 'get out of there its gonna blow!' sound from CS, like that guy was posting about the other day in the ringtone thread.

Most of us are locked into agreements with our cell phone providers 🙁

Just one, they just keep re-newing it whenever you change a plan you re-committ yourself to another year.

Same with "upgrading" to a new phone, adds a new year.

So lay off the upgrade trigger, and let the bitchiness wear itself out. Then switch to Nextel 😀.

<-- Happy Nextel subscriber.

They have something different where I am. You can go up, down, without renewing your contract. I guess they're doing a pilot program to see how well it does. If all is well you'll eventually be able to upgrade your phone without penalty, go up or down on your rate plan without a penalty, and most of all, if the service does not make you happy such as: bad connection or the price is just not right for you, they will waive the ETF of $200.00 and you're free from your contract. -- Again, this is a pilot program being tested where I am. I don't think it will hit the rest of the US for another six months to a year.

Whoa! I'm with Sprint and when I changed my plan (retention plans) they just restarted my one year agreement from that day. They didn't ADD another year. What a rip off.

I've been off contract for a while now. Now when I call and threaten to cancel, they take it a bit more seriously. 😀

I'm sticking with Sprint since they have the PDA phone I've been using for quite a while.

They need to allow all phones to be used with any service.
