I keep getting rates of less than a meg p/sec....Why is this?

It isn't the line or the router as I've tried transferring files between two x boxes on the same network and they go 5 megs /sec.

Is there some kind of cap somewhere or ?

Thanks

How about telling us something about the network equipment? No information, no ideas.

D-link router (wireless)

Generic Intel nic on the computer

Generic Intel nic on the other computer...

Can never seem to get over the hump of 1 meg per second in speeds between these two machines (or others, like pc to xbox, pc to a laptop on a wireless b card).

If they're both on the wireless simultaneously, keep in mind that 11Mbps is the *total* bandwidth available for *all* wireless clients (and you'll be lucky to get half that, even in good conditions). Transferring from A over wireless to the router and then back over the wireless to B uses up twice as much bandwidth as A going wireless to the router and then to a wired system C.

If both clients are wireless, you might have better luck forming an ad-hoc network of just the two systems, since you won't have to send the data through the router and back out that way.

If they're both wired, then something is way out of whack with your network, but you've gotta provide some more info on the setup.

with an xbox your not likely to get much for speeds anyway, just a handicap that they have.
