transfer of a T40 warranty?

another question......one option to acquire a T40 would be to have a friend buy one from ibm.com for me (i am in canada and as recounted in many threads T40's, really all laptops, are insanely more expensive here). I am pretty sure the warranty is international so i could have the machine worked on in Canada but is the warranty assigned to the purchaser by default? As well is that is the case can it be transferred to someone else (myself)?

Perhaps an obscure question but i figured maybe someone had a parent or relative buy one for them.......
 
AFAIK the warranty begins when shipped but doesn't apply to a paticular person until it's registered but you may want to confirm with IBM
 
warranty is tied to the machine not the user, i bought my friend a laptop from the employee pruchase program and this is the first question I asked when I ordered it
