transfer into the new harddrive

I purcahsed a new 80gb WDC and installed into my computer. I m trying to set the new harddrive as a master and have the old harddrive as a slave. It wont work. So, I set it up both on direct connect and I tried to transfer (copy) all data from old harddrive into the new harddrive. It won't allow as it says illegal copy or something like that ... I couldnt able to do anything execpt leave both in and have the old harddrive running as usually. One of my friends told me that I have to buy another win xp. I said "o way I won't buy another win xp which is pretty silly thing to do"..

Is there a way you could help me with that situation. I was hoping to have the new harddrive to run as master and have the old harddrive as a back up in case it crashes. Any ideas????

Dell dimension 4100
Win xp home
orginal hd= 40 gb.
new hd= 80gb

Thank u....

Use the WD Utility to copy the old hard drive to the new one.
Partition to Partition
WD Downloads
After you get it copied, change the boot order in the Bios
or it might still boot off the old drive.
Then you can go to Disk Administration in Control panel
and change drive letters, reformat, etc the old one.
I changed mine from a 40gb to a 120gb and XP didn't have any problems.
(Maybe the drive letters)
Used Norton Ghost to make a boot disk for my installation.
Maxtor's utility didn't like my 120gb drive.
