The adapter also does the same for the power connector. You kind of have to swoop the connector under the dell little knob that sticks out. Kind of hard to explain. I'll upload some pics later on tonight. I'm seeing Troy at 4 pm pacific :)

Pixle...

Johnjkr1 , did you overclock the 2500 at all? I'm actually thinking of picking one of those up.

Very interested in those pics....can't wait to see how you got that to work. As for the 2500+, nope, not yet. It is unlocked though, so maybe I will try soon.

i too am very interested in the pics, and john may be able to verify if it will work with the newer dells such as mine :)

also, thank you all that have helped me try and solve this problem.

i'm learning a valuable lesson, if i wanted to upgrade my comp a lot, i shouldn't buy a dell, i should just put it together from scratch!

yeah, I found out the proprietary bit the other day.

I bought a new case and PSU that I planned to put my Dell board in. After I hooked it all up and powered it up (or lack of powering it up) I worried maybe something was broken. Then I noticed that there was a pin missing from Dell's version of the ATX pinout.

well i just bought a ic7-max3 motherboard so i wouldn't have to mess with it. i will just end up selling the case/mobo/psu on ebay or on here.

Now i shouldn't have any problems, right??????

also, now is it true i need a full copy of windows because of the new mobo. i have windows xp pro upgrade, but i don't have any full versions since i've bought all my computers from dell (i learned my lesson)

......man the fun never ends, please tell me theres a way around spending a ton of money now on a full version of windows

thanks for the pics, the only thing i dont see is how you connected the power button on the case to the motherboard...other than that, nice job!

Oh...well the dell Mobo..didn't allow me to add the led lights for the power.

But the mobo had a power and reset pin. I just inserted those in the mobo, in the spot
that I remembered it was in the other case.

Actually I think the mobo has power and reset written on the mobo.

Ahh...too tired to open it up and look :)

btw...what mobo are you currently using in your setup?

Well, it is not a "connector", its a control panel. and an I/O panel. That do not have the standard plugs. I worked on these for two years at Dell, I know. Have fun trying to get it to turn on!!
there is no such thing as a standard front plate connector setup. but the dell is basically the same as every oher one, just that all the wires are together in a flat ribbon cable to make installation easier on the guys in the factory. heck, albatron motherboards used the same layout. so i've got an albatron motherboard with an athlon xp in an old dell case. ribbon cable from the front plate plugs right in, and all the buttons and lights on the front work properly.
