Transfer Data from External to new SSD

I picked up a new 256 Samsung 830 SSD and plan to install over the weekend.
My plan is to pull the HD's I have installed and install the new 830 do a clean Windows 7 install and then put the Old "C" drive in my external esata enclosure and transfer files & settings to the new drive using the old like it was an old pc and use Windows file transfer to transfer old to new.
Will that work ?
Then I just plan to reinstall the other software that was installed on the old.
Thanks for your time 🙂

Can anyone answer this question for me, I'd like to change drives over the weekend.
I guess the worse that could happen is I have to put the original drive back in 🙂

Thank you I appreciate your time, I thought it should work but it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion.
Thanks again

If you have enough SATA ports and power, it might be a little faster to connect your drives internally. (You mentioned hard drives, plural.)

Depending on how many files you're copying, you may want to use a dedicated program like robocopy, teracopy, or xxcopy. [thread=2259164]Old thread[/thread]
