Tranny flush vs change?

I was going to get the transmission fluid in my car changed this weekend. Is it worthwhile to get it flushed (75K on an 04 Accord, auto, mostly highway miles) or is a regular drain + refill good enough? This is the first change of tranny fluid in the car. Thanks! 🙂

You'll find proponents of both.

If you aren't going to change your trans oil often, then I'd suggest a flush/fill........(remember you only get about half or slightly more of the oil out of the gearbox when you drain/refill, so always need to do it a couple times in a couple weeks to get it fairly good).

The argument against flush/fill is that the anal-retentive type always worry about the shop not cleaning the equipment properly, thus introducing possible contaminants from the last yahoo's flush/fill before yours. Is it true or not?? Even if it's true is it worth worrying about?? FIIK.....or care for that matter.

What *I* typically do is during the summer time I'll change my oil 2 or maybe 3 times. Well, I'll drain/refill my trans oil every one of those times too. It's lasted me 130K on my '98 Camry and 150K on my '95 Corolla.

Or maybe it's just the whole Toyota thing......😛

Good lord! Do the Arabs send you a Christmas card with cash in it as a thank you?

If you can do regular drain/fills I would do that. I have done 15k drain/fills on my car starting @ 30k. I probably won't ever flush it. If you want to be more thorough, you can drain fill, drive 100 miles, drain/fill, drive 100 and drain/fill. That will get a good amount of the fluid out. You should set a regular change interval that you are comfortable with.

i think the owner manual specifically says don't flush it, that drain and fill is enough.

Yea I read that this morning. Might just stick with that then. 🙂 Thanks James. What's new with you anyway?
