tranferring a RAID0 to another system?

I never tried this and was hoping someone could give me a quick answer.

Is it possible to preserve the contents of a single volume 2 drive SATA RAID0 array when changing motherboards? This is not the boot volume. I'm changing from an ASUS A7N8X deluxe to the new Asrock ULi board and will install an entirely new boot volume on a separate drive. Obviously both boards use different SATA controllers but will the new board recognize the array if I just plug in the drives?

The drives contain only data. I can simply copy the data and reformat the drives but I'd rather not go through the trouble if I don't need to.

Unless BOTH motherboards use the EXACT same SATA Controller, firmware, RAID BIOS version, and drivers your chances are very slim. This is one of the drawbacks to using a non-hardware based RAID solution.

It won't work unless both mobos have the same RAID controller chip, or you're using add-on RAID controller card and move the card to the other mobo.

Otherwise no. Use Norton Ghost or some other imaging software to backup the array and then restore it to another drive or array on the new system.

This is one of several reasons why I don't recommend using RAID 0. If you do you should use a controller card and kep a spare card handy in case of failures.
