I am wondering what is the best way to send gigs of data over my home wireless network.

When I try to just cut and paste, some of the data gets corrupted. So is there a better way, other than dircet wire?

Thanks

i would not suggest doing this over wireless cause it can just drop stuff randomly
i suggest being wired directly into the router from he 2 computers ou want to transfer things to and from if possible

Direct wire is the best for this unfortunately. Unless your AP and PC are right next to each other without any interference, I wouldn't try it.

use FTP. MS networking is notorious for not handling file transfers very well.

also, there is no reason whatsoever that your data should be corrupted. the network doesn't corrupt the data. Now if your transfer didn't complete that could cause corruption.

How many gigabytes?

If you're handy and the devices are convenient, you might consider pulling a drive and connecting it to the other computer and doing local transfers. A 4 GB file would take around 26 minutes over typical 20 Mb/s wireless throughput, whereas it might take less than that to move and restore a drive, and about a minute to transfer it locally. This math gets better with more data.

You can get a 1GB USB Flash drive for about $18 at Newegg right now. I'm sure there are better deals around as well.

I just got a couple of these not long ago - can't believe how handy they've come in for situations like this ;)

I transfer about 20 gig of data from one laptop to another via a crossover over 1gb with full duplex.
