There should be a law for the maximum length of a cargo train. I had to wait 25 freaking minutes at 5:05PM for what I swear was the longest train I've ever seen. Not only did it have about a million cars but it was going like 2 MPH through downtown on Friday at rush hour. GRRRRR.

A million cars? That is a long train!

Actually, the speed of the trains is often regulated by the municipalities they pass through as a safety concern.

But 25 minutes is a long time to wait.

Kat, try driving in downtown Ottawa at rush hour. now THAT's bad city planning. or on the Queensway at rushour, you don't move at all. no train's to blame either :p

You knew the tracks were there, plan for meeting the occasional train. The railway owns the tracks, and should be allowed to use them as they please so long as such use does not constitute a danger to citizens (ie. high speed trains through residential area). I have had longer waits for trains than 25 minutes, and yes it was an inconvenience, but I knew the tracks were there and I had other routes I could have taken so I really couldn't complain.

I think there is law that a train cannot block an intersection for longer than 11 or 12 minutes, you can sue if they do.

They don't really bother me that much since our roads cross their property.

eakers is canadian! yayaya! more cool canadians on AT

Trains suck....I once had a train stall cutting the south end of Calgary in half for several hours, it stopped one half of the LRT public transit, so the other track starting doing both directions but only halfway...so I couldn't get from Chinook to South Center and I had to go buy my woman (well I want her to be) a bracelet for Xmas at South Center....so I ended up walking FORTY blocks (and these are long south end blocks, not 1 building wide downtown blocks) because this train was stalled....
