I took a trip on a train as a kid, (maybe 5 years old) and also rode a subway back in the early 60's when my family took a trip to Chicago.

Every freaking day to work 🙁

Metro sub in Paris. 10 yr old gypsy tried to pick my pocket (had my airline tickets in there) :disgust:

They really need to send all the Metro management folks up to NYC for a 6 month training course on how to run a mass transit system. Metro is one of those systems that photographs like a champ until you get into the reality of using it on a daily basis and find out just how difficult it can be. Among the things that annoy me about Metro are:
1. The silly transfer system which isn't a real transfer system between the trains and buses and no transfers from bus to train.
2. The escalator system.
3. Train design which is nice for middle of the day leisure trips but inefficient for large numbers of people during the commuting crush.
4. Farecard machines. There are not enough of them overall and no where near enough of them for the Smartpass cards.
5. The non rush hour schedules are ridiculous for a major city mass transit system.

Being from Europe, I rode trains (slow, fast, extremely fast), trams, subways, buses

Used to ride the train when going home from Uni. Was great: faster, more comfy, and far more relaxed at arrival than by car and u can get work done during the trip....

I dont like the trams/buses in my town tho, A) they stop working after 1o'clock in the morning - sux B) I am generally faster and more independent by bike

I dont use the train anymore because it has gotten too expensive and the service declined in the past years - so it is the car now

Agreed on most of those points. Especially the damned escalators! I get off at the pentagon city stop and the for the last 4-5 months, they've been repairing the escalator on the bestbuy side of the metro station. First one side and now the other. And they estimate that it won't be done till August 2003. Yeah that's all I want, climbing the freaking stairs in the freaking heat.

I take the subway most of the time here in Toronto. It beats traffic big time. Yes, there are inconveniences like not finding a seat sometimes or two fat people sitting on both sides of you or everyone cramming into the subway like sardines, but it's still faster.

I took the "T" in and around boston almost every day before I started driving 🙂. I still take it when i don't have a car for whatever reason or I gotta go someplace where its hard to park. HOOAH

LMAO I work in the same place and in fact will be using that station in a couple minutes to go to the dentist. :| Right now I am driving in because I am reimbursed for parking and mileage but that will be changing soon and I will be taking VRE.

I'm up in Silver Spring. Long commute but alot better than driving. Especially since I get a subsidy.

Yea, does anyone else think this is a weird question? 😀

Of course I use trains and subways regularly. I just wish Chicago had 5 more lines :disgust:
