Imagine yourself, instead of riding the Black Mesa Tram in Half-life, DRIVING the Black Mesa Tram in Half-life. That's the best description of Microsoft's Train Simulator that I can think of for all you first-person shooter geeks.

Call me weird, but I love this game! :D

I have heard the same thing. I'm waiting for more reviews before I convince my dad to go half and half with me on it. If its as good as people say he is going to freak out when he plays it :D

I've got the game. I think it's about a 7/10. It's far too slow for my liking - too many slowass speed limits.

what's so exciting about driving a train!?

w00t: yeah, I can blow the horn while having to follow one track that everyone knows where it goes! Yeah! I don't have much decision on where to go! I can't flank my enemies! Yeah!!!

j/k ;)

Is the player going to be able to build their own tracks and stuff? That would be awesome! :)

What are the minimum specs?

I'm afraid of the day that my P3-667 with a TNT2 ULtra won't be able to keep up...

Actually it's quite difficult - especially those darned Japanese passenger trains. They expect you to be on-time right down to the second. You can choose where you want to go but you can't build your own tracks.

Looks pretty cool. Just one more game for me to be addicted to but not have time to play, thus having to give up sleep, again.

/edit: too late with the link, oh, well.....

The requirements are pretty heavy if you want a good framerate. I have a GF2 32 meg with a 1.2 Athlon, and at the highest graphic setting I get only about 38-40 fps. However, the graphics are pretty gorgeous and nicely detailed. Apparently, the 6 train routes (which are VERY LONG, about 100 miles or so) are modeled very accurately.

I haven't tried the lowest graphic settings, yet.

holy crap... the idea sounds soooo lame! TRAIN SIMULATOR - reminds me of PC Gamer's spoof a while ago - Blimp Simulator.. hahaha.. Maybe it's awesome - but the idea just sounds terrible.

Lol I'm with the others, the idea sounds rather fecal :D Seriously, what do you do in the game that makes it so fun, at least a flight simulator is a little challenging, in a train simulator you're on a set of tracks!

You'd be surprised to find out how difficult it is. Right now, I'm working on the Japanese route, and as described above by GL, you have to be right on the money on speed, timing, and precise stopping. It's a very mental game, with some pretty scenery to boot.

I also did the tutorial for the Steam Engine (you know, the "Choo-choo" trains), and that was a major chore. All the things you have to keep in mind at one time is pretty staggering.

I just bought the Microsoft train simulator and have had problems. After about 10 attempts of trying to load the complete program (1.8GB) I tried a minimim install which went ok. BUT!!! now when I try to run the program it tells me that my sound card and/or drivers are not compatible. The sound card is a Diamond MX300. Where can I get new drivers for the MX300 since A3D is long gone and Diamond is no longer updating the drivers for the MX300? Thanks

<< you can't build your own tracks >>

this is not true. you can import your own landscape and build your own tracks with the included track editing utility - quite cool really, but slow.
