No comments? Weird.

That being said, that's horrific. Just saw the video on Reuters; said the driver was going twice the speed limit for that curve.

Why don't they have systems installed to automatically slow down or stop speeding trains?

Saw that video this morning. Pretty f___ed up that you can tell exactly when there are 0 people dead and 70 people dead within a few seconds.

Tell me did you sail across the sun
Did you make it to the milky way to see the lights all faded
And that heaven is overrated

Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star
One without a permanent scar
And did you miss me while you were looking for yourself out there

so this was caused by the train going to fast? i would think they would have something to slow these things down on corners.

sad for those that died.

Sounds like something he's done often...

I guess that explains why the curves weren't more banked - he wasn't supposed to be going that fast anyway.... If he didn't die, he'll wish he had.

article says it was going 2x the allow speed... and the engineer shouting im going 190 !

might be equipment failure or something.

weird, i guess kinja is blocked

According to Spanish newspaper El País, the engineer was shouting to main control over the radio, claiming that the train was running at 118mph (190km/h) moments before the crash. Then he said it was running at 124mph (200km/h) and finally, just before taking the curve, he screamed "I'm going at 190km/h!"

hmm wonder if it was equipment failure or just trying to save time and go fast.

I doubt that any person qualified to run the train would want to exceed twice the limits knowing what would happen.

I agree. but sadly you never know.

A few years ago there was a train collision because the conductor was testing and missed a stopped train.
