If this format is so great why is it not used? Why did they change?

Expensive, film stock/prints harder to handle in basically every respect, and you needed film houses equipped with 70mm projection to present it. Cost was the primary driver though.

if there a list of ther 70mm5p theaters out there

interstellar was what 70mm15p?

and yes expense and bulk

I mean projecting 70mm is no small feat and requires a TON of space for the backend of the PJs

Interstellar was presented in both 70mm 5 perf and IMAX 70mm 15 perf, though it was shot on 35mm and IMAX 70mm.

There are various lists of existing 70mm 5 perf theaters but I know a lot of them are defunct or rarely used. I think Interstellar only was shown in about a dozen or so places in that format over the whole US. Reportedly Tarantino is refitting 50ish theaters to play the film for the 70mm run. This is no small challenge since the equipment is quite old and the number of people who are still alive that can rebuild or operate it is pretty small.

oh man I don't know how I feel about this movie anymore...

On one hand I really want to see it...on the other hand, the roadshow version is OVER 3 hours long...
